DIGICEL WELCOMES TEAM FIJI FROM PACIFIC GAMES

Tuesday 13th September 2011, Fiji:  Digicel Fiji tonight hosted the Fiji Sevens Team, the Paralympic Team,  and Brand Ambassadors Banuve Tabakaucoro, Tieri Erasito  and James Bolabiu at a welcome function at their offices, Kadavu House, Suva.

They were part of Team Fiji who made Fiji proud by finishing 4th at the Pacific Games in Noumea, New Caledonia with 34 gold, 44 silver and 53 bronze medals.

Digicel Fiji CEO David Butler says, “We are very proud of the high achievement of Team Fiji and of the results achieved during the Pacific Games 2011. All the athletes associated with Digicel have displayed extraordinarily promising results for future success at not only the Pacific Games, but internationally. Digicel will continue to support the development of sports in the communities.”

Banuve Tabakaucoro won Gold for all his events with three Gold medals. Banuve Tabakaucoro broke record at the games in the 200m final by clocking 21.06sec. His performance has been outstanding and distinguished given his age matched against his fitness level and performance.

Tieri Erasito came home with the most medals, winning six medals from her events. Tieri Erasito also broke record in the 15 -16 age group 200m Butter-Fly with a new record of 2.28.63. She has been provided with the opportunity to further her education in the United Kingdom and also be part of a renowned swim club that will help with her development.

The Fiji Sevens Team came home with a Silver Medal.  Ranjesh Prasad of the Paralympic team also won a Silver Medal for his 100m event.

Digicel is also proud to announce that Brand Ambassador Iliesa Delana has qualified for the Olympic Games 2012; the only entrant from the region so far.

Digicel’s Sponsorship, Public Relations & Community Manager Joji Fatiaki says “Digicel is extremely proud of the achievements by all its Brand Ambassadors and the entire Team Fiji. We are also excited and looking forward to Iliesa Delana’s preparation for next year’s Olympic Games.”
