December 24th 2009 - Christmas Carols ring out in Sukuna Park

Thursday, 24th December 2009, Fiji: Digicel Fiji yesterday awarded first prize of $1,500.00 to Lobau Sunday School Choir in its first annual Digicel Christmas Choir Competition in Sukuna Park on Wednesday, bringing to a close their series of Christmas in the Park events.

The Digicel Christmas Choir Competition brought together choirs from around the greater Suva area over a span of four weeks. The final day of competition drew quite a crowd, Lobau Sunday School Choir being an obvious favourite from the outset.

Mrs. Miliakere Tabu, Choirmistress of Lobau Sunday School Choir  said, “The choir had a great time and the first prize has been a bonus.”

“Thank you Digicel for organizing this, and for giving us this opportunity.”

Other prizewinners were Delaidogo Methodist Youth Choir winning 2nd prize of $750, and Navuloa Methodist Church Choir coming 3rd with $500 prizemoney.

Digicel Fiji CEO John Delves said, “We’ve been delighted at the public reaction to our series of Christmas Events in the Park. We’ve seen hundreds of individuals come across to Sukuna Park especially to have their picture taken with the Digicel Christmas Tree, and many more have enjoyed the Christmas carols from the choirs on their way home once a week and finally yesterday.”

THE Digicel Christmas Choir Competition and Christmas Tree are part of the 'Share this Christmas with Digicel' campaign. The Christmas Tree will remain in Sukuna Park through to early January.
