Digicel joins hands with Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji for four-day event featuring players from around the world

 

Thursday, 5 August 2010 –Suva, Fiji: Digicel Fiji has today announced title sponsorship for the Sanatan World Cup, which will be played from August 5-8 at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

Digicel is working in partnership with the Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha World Cup Soccer Association on this tournament which will feature 16 teams from Fiji and overseas, and will be known as ‘Digicel Sanatan World Cup’. The tournament will feature some of the very best players who are well known in Fiji soccer circles. These include the likes of former Suva and national rep Shalen Lal along with Ravinesh Narayan (Labasa), Aaron Singh (Rewa), Atunesh Prasad (Nadroga), Nitesh Prasad (Nadroga), Rocky Prasad (Nasinu) and Vinod Kumar (Nadroga).

Digicel has a strong relationship with the Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji and was the title sponsor of the 51st Sanatan Convention in April this year, and Digicel, Fiji’s Bigger, Better Network is proud to be associated with Sanatan’s community projects.

 

Digicel is a proud sponsor of sports in Fiji and around the Pacific; Digicel is the major sponsor of the Digicel Fiji 7s team and the Digicel Cup along with the Fiji Paralympics as well as various other local sporting initiatives in Fiji. These include the sponsorship of the 2010 Vanua Levu Sanatan tournament, Kadavu Rugby Club, Kadavu Netball, Fiji Surfing Association, Lelean Memorial School rugby team and Nasinu Primary Schools Netball.

 

There will be numerous activities during the four days with the games starting on Thursday, August 5, with the official opening scheduled for Saturday, August 7. The opening ceremony will be colorful event with a march from Sigatoka town to Lawaqa Park from 8.30am. The official opening will be officiated by Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji president Dewan Maharaj, followed by a speech from Digicel Fiji Director Marketing, Niamh Byrne.

Digicel will be present at Lawaqa Park providing customers a chance to register their phones during the four-day tournament. ABOUT DIGICEL SANATAN WORLD CUP

 

The Sanatan World Cup started in 2004 with eight countries and the executives came up with the tournament to get people together. The main aim of the Sanatan World Cup is not just soccer but through medium of the sport to reunited all Sanatan people from all over the world.

The first Sanatan World Cup played in Australia saw the final played between Australia and New Zealand and the hosts came out winners. In 2006 New Zealand beat USA and this was the same in 2008. The 2010 tournament will see 16 teams taking part and there is an introduction of the Veterans Soccer Cup, which will see six teams taking part.
