DIGICEL FIJI SEVENS TEAM NAMING

Thursday, 26th January 2012, Fiji: Digicel Fiji, BSP and Fiji Rugby Union today announced the team line up for the second leg of the IRB HSBC Sevens Series 2012. The 20 member squad saw the selection of 16 players for the squad to Wellington Sevens scheduled for 03rd & 4th February.

The players were named after the recent Uprising Sevens Tournament where selectors were present to further scout and finalise their selection that was announced today.

Digicel Fiji CEO David Butler says: “Digicel Fiji is proud at this stage of the team’s achievements so far. It is the best that we have seen for a long time now and I congratulate the boys, the Head Coach Mr Dere and Assistant Coach Mr Waqa for a job well done. However, it isn’t over yet as the rest of the series is ahead for further achievements.”

FRU CEO Manasa Baravilala says: “We have every confidence the Digicel Fiji 7s team will do us proud in both Wellington and Las Vegas; as they’ve already shown, at the Gold Coast 7s, that despite the limited resources we have in this country we can, when we put our minds to it, beat the best the rest of the world has to offer.”

BSP Fiji Country Manager Kevin McCarthy says: “BSP is delighted with the Digicel Fiji 7s team successes this season. Leading the table after the first round is a great start. The pressure is on us as all the other teams are looking to dethrone us. Some of the upcoming stars from the Uprising 7’s will be rewarded with a call to national duties. We wish Setefano, the boys, Dere and Waqa the very best. They have our support. I’m confident that the country is also backing them to satisfy the thirst for more good news especially at this time. Good luck and Go Fiji Go!”

Fiji currently ties with New Zealand at the top of the IRB Sevens table with South Africa and England following closely.

Fiji is in Pool C at the Wellington Sevens tournament with Argentina, Wales and Tonga. Last year, Fiji won the Plate Finals at the Wellington Sevens beating South Africa 26-12.

Digicel Fiji and BSP have also confirmed the positive results so far on their TXT to WIN promotion for this season for a Hilux vehicle to be won at the end of the series. Other consolation prizes saw winners walk away with the branded rugby balls, credit and autographed Digicel Fiji Sevens jerseys. Digicel customers who still want to be in the draw for other prizes and the major giveaway can simply text TRY to 7070. Conditions apply.
