DIGICEL FIJI FUNDS VILLAGE WATER PROJECT

Tuesday 16th January, 2011 Fiji: Digicel Fiji today visited the village of Navutu, Nadroga located off the Queen’s highway in between Sigatoka and Nadi to make a formal presentation to the villagers to kick start their water project.

To date, the village has been without consistent water supply and today it will start to change.

“We have been in talks with Digicel Fiji and have thoroughly been educated over our situation and the need for a better water supply. Today we witness the initial stages to what will benefit our village for generations to come,” commented village spokesman Lemeki Naitau.

Digicel Fiji Sponsorship and Community Manager Joji Fatiaki said, “Digicel today is delighted to share its interests in community development for a safe and cleaner water source for the village. This funding reflects the successful start of a great relationship with the people of Navutu for Digicel Fiji. It is our hope that this water project will increase the health and living standards for the people here.”

The funding that was declared and delivered today will initiate the implementation of the first half of the 10 year plan of the project. There will be a re-visit of this project after five years that will see the supply of another two water tanks for the village project.

Mr Naitau added, “The funding of the water project by Digicel has been very encouraging with the way they have been transparent regarding their interests to our development as a village. It is our prayer that Digicel will continue to excel in their commitment to nation building. Vinaka vakalevu Digicel.”

Digicel Fiji delegates included Site Acquisition Executive Ro Alipate Mataitini, Chief Technology Officer Mudassar Latif and Sponsorship, PR & Community Manager Joji Fatiaki.
